A colossos of man - Nataraja - was the official door man of the prestigious 5-star hotel, The Oriental Palace, in the city that fed on its own. His majestic whiskers and six foot plus frame only added to the many paradisaical comforts the hotel had to offer. He, however, was the first major attraction. An interestingly different doorknob that people would toy with before going on to meet the Emperor. But what hid behind those genuine smiles and gracious welcomes he gave his multi-ethnic guest list each day? What hideousness covered his past that he had struggled so hard to run away from? What had driven him out of the one place he could call his home and made him walk into the snarling cesspool that the city was?
'A doorman's knock' follows the life of Nataraja and his relationships with two diverse characters. One, the owner of The Oriental Palace - Omprakash Trivedi. A man who, despite his billionaire status and four foot something frame, treats Nataraja as if he was his own son. A bond Nataraja is immensely proud about. The second, is little Meenu. The street urchin who performs at various traffic lights getting in and out of metal rings to earn a living. Caught between such completely opposing poles of society, Nataraja wonders what the purpose of his life is. He wonders, with regret, about the past he has fled with such nightmares yet cannot ignore their looming presence in the city of the free. Fate, as it would appear, finally shows him his role one rainy evening as Nataraja finally comes face to face with what would possibly be an image that he will take to his grave.
